The sun has got his hat on!

Temperatures are warming up and we have just enjoyed one of the hottest days so far, reaching around 25°C, we can safely say that Summer is pretty much on the horizon. It was great to see so many people soaking up the rays and enjoying picnics in the park without a care in the world. It’s incredible what a bit of sun does to people you know. We’re renowned for talking about the weather too much as it is, but when the sun’s got his hat on there’s absolutely no stopping us, and quite rightly so. Oh, and there are plenty of health benefits besides that glowing tan…

Before heading out into the heat, make sure you apply a suitable amount of sun cream and whack on your shades, because as we all know too much UV exposure can be incredibly harmful. Once you’ve done that, you’re good to go!

The sun does absolute wonders at making us feel calm, happy and relaxed. Those golden beams of sunlight trigger a healthy boost in serotonin levels in the brain, which enhances our mood.

Aside from relieving stress, the sunlight magically increases vitamin D levels. Most vitamin D is produced when you expose a large area of your skin. So that gives you even more of an excuse to throw off those layers, kick back, relax, and expose your skin to the sun.

So why do we need a good dose of vitamin D? Here are five benefits:

  1. 1. Vitamin D plays a huge role in keeping our bones and teeth healthy and strong.
  2. 2. It helps support a healthy immune system, brain and nervous system.
  3. 3. It does wonders at regulating our insulin levels and especially helps diabetes management.
  4. 4. It supports our cardiovascular system and lungs.
  5. 5. Vitamin D influences the expression of genes involved in cancer development.

Yes, the sun really is a life saver!
