A Tasty Low-Calorie, Post-Workout Shake

So, you’ve been overindulging recently and you’ve decided to go for the mother of all workouts in the gym. You’re sweating buckets and all you can think about is your next bite to eat. Hold your horses trooper…you don’t want all that strain and pain on the treadmill to be all for nothing do you?

Here at Halo Coco HQ we’ve been shaking up a simple and tasty low-calorie, post-workout shake that will leave you feeling refreshed and revitalised:

Recipe:

  • Halo Coco vanilla coconut milk
  • A few handfuls of frozen strawberries, raspberries and blueberries
  • A dash of cinnamon
  • A dollop of plain coconut yogurt
  • Whizz it all up in a blender, and Bob’s your Uncle!

  1. Why Halo Coco vanilla coconut milk?

First of all, one carton is only 106 calories which is undeniably amazing if you’re trying to loose weight.

Coconut milk is also high in MCTs (healthy fats) which ‘results in a greater loss of fat’ according to the School of Dietetics and Human Nutrition at Mcgill University. The MCTs support digestive organ health, which aids fat metabolism and removes waste from our body. The healthy fats will also make you feel full and stop you from reaching out for that second cookie.

It’s also amazing at rehydrating us, especially after a killer workout. Coconut milk does wonders for replacing electrolytes lost by sweating.

If you’re someone who suffers from post-workout cramps or even muscle spasms, you’re in luck. Coconut milk contains magnesium which should help lower the chances of you seizing up and collapsing on the floor. You don’t want that to happen, do you?

So why vanilla coconut milk? Well, why not? Our Halo Coco vanilla coconut milk is delicious, if we do say so ourselves, and really complements the bursting berry flavours in the shake! Plus, it means you don’t have to mess around adding vanilla extract.

  1. Why strawberries, raspberries and blueberries?

They’re juicy and refreshing. They’re high in fibre, so will keep you feeling full. They’re jam-packed with antioxidants which are great for overall health. Boom!

  1. Why cinnamon?

Cinnamon helps reduce fat, particularly abdominal fat. It’s does a great job at controlling blood sugar levels by increasing the breakdown of glucose. This leads to a drop in the amount of glucose in the blood that is able to be stored as fat.

  1. Why plain coconut yogurt?

Coconut yogurt is an incredible source of calcium which, as we all know, keeps our bones healthy and strong. We also recommend going for plain Greek yogurt because the flavoured ones tend to have higher levels of sugar. Plus, why would you want to mask the scrumptious berry and Halo Coco vanilla flavours?

Go on, give it a try, you know you want to!
