The Sugar Monkey

It’s becoming clear that we are consuming too much sugar…One culprit which we tend to oversea is our drinks.

With the ever increasing hidden sugars being added to our food and drinks it’s no surprise that the younger generation are consuming more sugar than ever. The ease of cheap ready meals and grab-and-go foods around every corner, people are acting on instinct..and possibly that sugar monkey on your back has an influence!

Avoiding the cakes and the biscuits will help reduce your sugar intake but did you know a single serving of so-called healthy fruit juice has been found to contain the same amount of sugar as three-and-a-half doughnuts or 13 hobnob biscuits!!

As a guide, The Government’s guideline daily amount – of “total sugars” (both naturally occurring and free sugars) for the average adult women should not be more than 25 grams of added sugar a day and men 36. Added sugars are present in processed or prepared foods and natural sugars are those that occur naturally, such as the sugars present in milk and fruits.

Keep your eyes peeled, keep your teeth and body happy and get that Monkey off your back!
